Any Nextcloud instance — your own self-hosted server or one run by a hosting provider. Cirruscope isn't tied to a specific provider.

Cirruscope is built for online-first environments — where the Nextcloud web interface is your main way of working, rather than local copies of your files. The official Nextcloud Files client's purpose is to keep files synchronized bidirectionally between the server and your device. The Nextcloud Talk client shares Cirruscope's goal of integrating better into your desktop, but focuses primarily on Nextcloud Talk. The official Nextcloud clients are multi-platform projects; Cirruscope is exclusive to macOS, trading that breadth for the tighter, more native integration specialization makes possible. Cirruscope brings that native, integrated feel to the whole Nextcloud web experience.

A Mac running macOS 26 Tahoe or newer, and a Nextcloud server on version 34 or newer. The Compatibility section below has the details.

Cirruscope is out on the Mac App Store — free, like the rest of the project. If you want to try upcoming versions early, join the Community test group on TestFlight.

Right-click your desktop, choose Edit Widgets…, and add Cirruscope's Activity widget to your desktop or to Notification Center. It shows recent changes to the files on your Nextcloud server, which needs its Activity app switched on: “Activity unavailable” means it isn't. If the widget says “Not signed in”, open Cirruscope and sign in. Gray placeholder bars mean it hasn't loaded anything yet; if they stay after you've added it, open Cirruscope once, and if they still stay, the widget couldn't reach your server and will try again on its own.

Logging out in Settings… > General asks your server to revoke Cirruscope's app password, then removes from your Mac what Cirruscope keeps from your server, including your sign-in, its Spotlight results, the Activity widget's contents and its notifications in Notification Center. Downloaded files stay in your Downloads folder. Your keyboard shortcuts and appearance settings stay on your Mac, ready for your next sign-in.

Not right now. We're focused on making Cirruscope the best native Nextcloud experience on macOS first. We're not ruling it out, but there's nothing to announce yet.

The whole point of Cirruscope is deep integration with Apple's native platform technologies — so a Windows version wouldn't really be a port, it'd be a completely different project built from the ground up. That's not something we have the resources for right now, but it's not ruled out forever.

Same reasoning as Windows: Cirruscope's value comes from being deeply native to Apple's platform, so a Linux version would mean starting a separate project from scratch, not porting this one. Not something we can take on right now. Nextcloud's own web interface works great in any browser on Linux, though.
