Privacy Policy
Cirruscope does not collect any data. Not usage analytics, not crash reports, not your files, nothing — full stop.
What Cirruscope does on your Mac
Cirruscope connects only to the Nextcloud server you choose and to services your server points it to, such as one for office documents or calls. Your login credentials are stored securely in the macOS Keychain, on your Mac only. Cirruscope contains no analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting code, and it never sends any data to us.
What Cirruscope keeps on your Mac
So that your Nextcloud content can appear in Cirruscope's menus, in Spotlight, in the Shortcuts app and in the widget, Cirruscope keeps some details from your server on your Mac — such as the names of your Nextcloud apps and conversations, the titles of your notes, recent changes to your files and who made them, and profile pictures — but never the text of your notes. All of this stays on your Mac and is deleted when you log out. Only what you set up on this Mac, such as your keyboard shortcuts and appearance settings, is kept.
Camera, microphone and notifications
Pages from the Nextcloud server you connect to can use your camera and microphone, for example for calls in Nextcloud Talk; anything else has to ask you first. On top of that, macOS asks you once for each before Cirruscope can use them at all, and you can change your answer any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security. Cirruscope gets your Nextcloud notifications from your server itself, not through a push service from Apple or anyone else, and removes its notifications from Notification Center when you log out.
Your Nextcloud server
The files, messages, and other content you access through Cirruscope live on the Nextcloud server you connect to — your own server, or one run by a provider you chose. That server's own privacy policy, and those of any services it points Cirruscope to, govern how they handle your data; this policy only covers the Cirruscope app itself.
Third parties
Cirruscope doesn't use analytics providers, advertising networks, or third-party SDKs of any kind. Apart from Apple's own frameworks, the only library it includes is Rainmaker, an open-source Nextcloud client library we maintain ourselves.
Children's privacy
Cirruscope is not directed at children and, consistent with everything above, doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top.
